Halloween 2024 – The biggest cosplay project I had ever tackled. A Space Marine from Warhammer 40,000.
My first foray into EVA foam armour building. This project took me a whole year, from my initial concept sketches to my final helmet remake.
As somebody who plays Warhammer 40,000 and has my own Space Marine army, I wanted this suit to match my models. So, Iron Ravens it was. I also wanted a fairly even balance of the religious/fantasy symbolism of Warhammer with the badass sci-fi power armour design that is the mark X suit. And the model type I thought achieved that balance: The humble Primaris Lieutenant. The most abundant model in 40k.

There had been lots of Space Marine costumes built by lots of people over the years, but very few suits of the Mark X armour. Premade foam patterns for Mark X armour were hard to find and not high quality. So, I had to modify the patterns I did find heavily, and draft many of my own. This was also the first project I documented in its entirety. The full 79 page build journal can be found... Here Note: This is not a how-to guide. It is VERY MUCH not a how-to guide. I did SO MANY things wrong. I finished this costume in time for the release of Space Marine 2 and was even able to wear it at a promotional event for Zero Latency's Space Marine VR game - From that experience, I learned how utterly impractical Space Marine armour is for... anything, really. Can't even hold a bolt rifle properly. It now sits on display at Torchlight Games and Hobbies.
